17yo Melvin was introduced to the gay circle when his polytechnic classmate surfed a gay website out of curiosity. Gay.com was the first step into the Internet chat for Melvin back in 1997.

Also out of curiosity, Melvin decided to access the chat rooms himself when he got back home. He braved himself and logged in as Sunnyboy as his first nickname. Through there, he made a few anonymous friends online and this went on for months. Melvin was obsessed with that chat room by then however he did not dare to give out his mobile phone number to anyone.

There was once, when he was quite comfortable with chatting with someone named Paul. Eventually, they exchanged numbers and chatted on the phone. That was the first time when Melvin chatted so happily with someone he barely knows and he started to have some likings for Paul. They chatted for hours and teasing each other. However Paul was not ready to meet Melvin. There was once when Paul bought a huge soft toy, delivered to Melvin’s doorstep personally and left quietly. Paul, being the one who was not familiar with Melvin’s neighbourhood, got lost and Melvin managed to locate Paul. Paul’s cute, thought Melvin. They finally met up.

A week went passed after their first meet up; Melvin was already treating Paul like his loved one by then with more meet ups and even appearing in Paul’s house! Second week came. Melvin had a trip to Malaysia organised by his polytechnic. Things changed when he came back. Paul was ignoring him and slowly, stopped contacting him. Helpless and sad, Melvin did not know what to do. Sulking for a period of time before Melvin lifted himself up and continued his adventures in gay.com.
