Helpless mum starves to death

27 October 2006

FOR days, the old woman watched her only caregiver and daughter's corpse rot in front of her. Madam Teoh Guat Hoe, 84 was reportedly so frail that she was not even able to shout for help from her neighbours. Her daughter, Ms Stella Ooi, 57, is believed to have died after falling from a chair, reported Guang Ming Daily.

Without her daughter to give her food and water, Madam Teoh eventually died of starvation.
Their rotting bodies were found on Tuesday afternoon, after neighbours complained of a stench from their two-storey terrace house in Ipoh. They are said to have died seven to 10 days earlier. A neighbour, Madam Zhong Yamei, said she had at first thought that the smell was from a rotting cat or dog. But when she peeked into the house and saw Madam Teoh lying unresponsively on her bed, she called the police.

BODIES IN SAME ROOM

The police found Ms Ooi's highly-decomposed body lying face-down in the living room.
Her emaciated mother, who was in adult diapers, was lying dead on her bed facing Ms Ooi's body. Madam Teoh's right eye was also decomposing by that time. Police are ruling out a possible break-in, as the bodies showed no signs of struggle and there were no signs of robbery.

According to Madam Zhong, 70, Madam Teoh has been bedridden for almost six years, after a fall at home. Madam Teoh was unable to speak and relied heavily on her daughter to take care of her. The pair kept to themselves and rarely spoke to neighbours, she said.
Madam Zhong also said that Madam Teoh has four other children, including a son who used to visit them often. Madam Teoh is suspected to have starved to death, but the cause of Ms Ooi's death could not be ascertained because her body was too decomposed.

Although this is a 3-day old story, reading it the second time still makes me feel so sad for them.

Destination Finale. Biennale at Tanglin Camp.

Finally completed our Singapore Biennale 2006 trip with the places that we wanted to visit. Today's places that we visited are Singapore Arts Museum and Tanglin Camp. As the exhibits inside Singapore Arts Museum are not allowed to be photographed, I decided not to take any of them. And worst of all, I can't find the signboard that states "Singapore Biennale 2006: Singapore Arts Museum"!! Darn! And so, we made a quick visit around the museum and headed down to Tanglin Camp. For those who do not know where is that, it's actually quite near to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A couple of people drove to Tanglin Camp I can see. Cars parked down the slope just below the camp with adults as well as kids. Seems that Singapore Biennale 2006 attracted alot of people of all ages and it proved that it suits almost everybody. The exhibits are displayed everywhere within the camp, with different blocks holding a handful of interesting exhibits for our eyes and ears. Hmm.. For further details, please see illustrations for some of the exhibits. Hehe~

After the visit to Tanglin Camp, we drove down to Orchard Takashimaya for dinner. Some Japanese restaurant that costs us $80+ just for two persons. Food and dessert not bad but then the price is still not worth it.

Eyes super tired today with all those fascinating exhibits at Singapore Arts Museum and Tanglin Camp. Well, that rounded up my visit to the Singapore Biennale 2006 this year, from National Museum to City Hall to Arts Museum and eventually at Tanglin Camp. I would definately hope that Singapore will hold more of such events. =)

Help! "Flu" blocked my nose on MSN!

Okay... Started my dinner with bah chor mee (mee pok with pork lard, pork liver, chilly oil, fried wantons) near my house, packed a packet of french fries home to munch and rounded up with a bowl of chocolate ice-cream. Sinfully sinful. It's the battle of The Mouth vs. The Mind. =)

Keep having this blocked nose for the past two days. Not like the usual flu, just a blocked nose which I used to have quite frequently when I was younger. Sensitive nose having reaction towards certain stuff. Something fishy around? Haha~ Maybe it's Mr. Haze knocking on the door again...

Stared at the monitor screen at work today. Looking at all the nicknames that are online at MSN. Fancy nicknames, sad nicknames, nicknames trying to broadcast certain messages, nicknames trying to tell someone something... Nicknames are no longer used as nicknames. They have become a medium, a channel to let everyone or at least someone to know about some information. Questions to ask, stories to tell, messages to pass on, etc. The movement of the mouth is used much lesser than the typing fingers nowadays. How weird... I'm typing right now. *stunned*

Sigh. I really hope that Lydia Sum can recover soon. Have been watching quite alot of her comedies since young, be it movies or drama. God bless her. May she overcome the ordeal and recover.

Clingy, emotional, and very private - it's hard to escape a Cancer's clutches.
